In the Night Kitchen
by Maurice Sendak

In the night kitchen of his dreams, little Mickey helps the bakers bake the morning cake. A favorite with many kids, this fun, imaginative story is one of the most popular children's books of all time and a Caldecott Honor award winner.

Maurice Sendak has a knack of knowing exactly what appeals to young children. Adults may find the story odd, but kids love the dreamlike quality of the book - and the idea of staying up all night in a mysterious kitchen, getting into the thick of the action.

A note of caution: Mickey is shown naked in some of the illustrations - for example, when he falls into the cake batter. Kids find this funny but it does bother some parents. If you're not comfortable with the nudity, give this book a miss.
