Crow Boy
by Taro Yashima

Crow Boy is one of the best books of all time for teaching kids compassion and acceptance of others' differences.

Chibi (Tiny Boy) is a small, shy mountain boy who attends a Japanese village school. He is an outcast among the children, rejected and bullied because he's different - a loner, poor and from the mountains.

This is a story many kids across all cultures can identify with: being bullied or ostracised is a universal human experience, and most times there's no good reason for it.

What makes this book one of the best inspirational stories for kids is the triumphant ending to the story - how the outcast earned his place in his community, and came to be recognized for his unique talents.
